Home And Decor: Tips to Achieving Scandinavian Home Design

You do not necessarily need to be an expert to know if your home design is right. While trends come and go, you must always feel comfortable in your own home. Your home design not only affects the way you think and feel, it can also add value and substantial personality to your home.

When it comes to home and décor, Scandinavian designs are a common option for homeowners due to their ability to be used and mixed within any design scheme. The design is clean, crisp, effortlessly comfortable and very functional. If you are looking to mix Scandinavian design with what you already have in your home, here are some tips on how to do it right.

Add Lots of White

In Scandinavian design, you may want mostly clean whites, off-whites, and gray palette, whether you are taking on a new layer of paint or installing a new marble countertop. Black can be used to add contrast to the room.

Add Colour Through Dishware and Accessories

All this white and gray palette may cause you to miss some colour. Don't worry because no Scandinavian home is complete without a touch of colour. Use your design accessories and dishware to bring some colour interest to the room.

Natural Wood Accents

From wide-planked floors to individual pieces of natural wood,  wood accents are a must in Scandinavian Design. Experts recommend to keep the type of wood and the variation in wood grain to a minimum and stick to pieces made from pine, bleached beech or stained oak.

Gallery Walls

Home and decor colour choice should extend to art choices as well. In Scandinavian schemes, art looks best in dramatic black-and-white and photos can be de-saturated as well.

Choose Statement Lighting

While Scandinavian design is minimalist, there are exceptions to the rules, and lighting is one of them. A living room or a dining room can benefit from a pendant or chandelier and a bedroom from some stellar sconces to bring in a touch of pop.

Go To Open Shelving

Whether in the living room or kitchen, an open shelving will better show off your style. But, because your shelving is open, you will need to keep it beautifully organized. And keep in mind that shelves aren't just for books – feel free to layer in some art and accessories, or a collection of dishware and glasses in the kitchen to enhance the look of the space.
